About the Story
A timeless village in the Highlands, cast under a spell which keeps it hidden except one day per century. No one may leave, lest it disappear forever; and no one may enter, lest it change the village — except the two American hunters who arrive, by dint of luck and timing, from the real and modern world, witness Brigadoon, and fall in love. Of course, the maid of Brigadoon (Fiona) cannot leave, and the New Yorker (Tommy) cannot stay… or can he?
A disgruntled teen threatens Brigadoon’s existence by fleeing. A wedding, a funeral, a legend, a sword dance and a host of great music round out the plot.
From the rousing “McConnachy Square” opening, through “Come to Me, Bend to Me”, “Heather on the Hill”, “I’ll Go Home with Bonnie Jean” and “Almost Like Being in Love”, this production brings back memorable tunes from ‘Brigadoon” taking Broadway by storm in 1947.
Director’s Message
2012 brings Ridge Players to a 40th anniversary with a re-staging of our 1st Broadway musical from 1972. Since then the company has grown in many ways — technically, artistically and with 43 years of successful productions to master our craft.
It is no wonder that this show has been re-produced in many major theatres, and that it spawned award-winning film and television productions.
A true romance, to be sure, Brigadoon offers the skreel of bagpipes, the colour of tartans, the setting of a village out of time, along with toe-tapping melodies and romantic ballads from a bygone era.
Join us in re-living a setting from two centuries past, brought up to modern times by the Ridge Players cast and crew. We’re looking forward to seeing you there.
